Villon’s Wife (Viyon no Tsuma: Outou to Tanpopo) 2009

Sachi is the wife of an abusive, unfaithful, and alcoholic writer named Otani. One night Otani stumbles home from a local bar followed by the bar’s owner who accuses him of having grabbed 5,000 yen from his cash register. To avoid further trouble, Otani’s wife offers to work at the bar herself to pay off her husband’s debt. She actually comes to enjoy the work, and maintains a positive outlook through all her misfortune as well as a love for her husband which seems to transcend conventional logic.

I watched this for Asano. I was a bit disappointed to see him in such an abusive role. The story of the long suffering wife has been done and re-done so I added this movie solely because of the fabulous Asano Tadanobu.
